The Ndakaini Half Marathon directly contributes to the restaration, preservation and protection of the flora and fauna of Ndakaini Dam.

The Ndakaini Half Marathon is an initiative by the Ndakaini Dam Environmental Conservation Association (NDEKA) which is a Community Based Organization (CBO) in Murang’a County.

Established in 2003, the Ndakaini Half Marathon aimed at conserving the Ndakaini water catchment area which feeds over three million residents on Nairobi, Kenya’s Capital City.

As a flagship project of the association, the half marathon was traditional held annually in the second Saturday of September in Muranga County.

As of 2023, 16 Editions of the Half Marathon have been run with the last edition being held in September 2019.
